Rail link to Marco Polo Airport
The project involves the construction of a new 8 km railway line connecting the historic Venice–Trieste line to Marco Polo International Airport, creating a strategic intermodal link for sustainable mobility. The infrastructure includes a 3.4 km tunnel under the water table and the new underground station “Venezia-Aeroporto”, designed to blend harmoniously with the passenger terminal thanks to modern architectural solutions and materials that reflect Venetian tradition, such as brick and Istrian stone.
The station will be equipped with a glass roof featuring BIPV photovoltaic technology, capable of producing clean energy and contributing to approximately 20% of its energy needs. The project introduces innovative construction techniques, such as the TTMJ system for diaphragm joints, which guarantees greater hydraulic sealing and durability. Particular attention has been paid to the landscape integration, with environmental restoration and green belts along the route.
Thanks to a multi-front construction site and the use of advanced technologies, the work will be completed by February 2026, in time for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. F&M Ingegneria is responsible for the complete design of the station, road works, engineering structures and landscaping, ensuring an integrated approach between architecture, structures and systems.
