New Genoa Breakwater
The new breakwater will increase the port’s capacity, bringing economic benefits to the city and the country. The structure of the new breakwater is enormous: it will consist of 100 concrete caissons built using a semi-floating platform. The largest ones are as tall as a 10-storey building, over 33 metres high. The new breakwater, which will protect the current and future port from storm surges, will involve the demolition of the existing breakwater, allowing container ships up to 400-450 metres long to pass through.
