The Ponte del Papa is now open.
On Friday 5 June, the upper deck of the Ponte del Papa opened to port traffic in Genoa. For the F&M team, this is more than just a news item: it marks the moment when years of work have been transformed into a real, usable piece of infrastructure, serving around 1,000 heavy goods vehicles every day, which can now reach the port without having to cross the city.
The Ponte del Papa is the only arch bridge with superimposed decks in Europe. Structures, geotechnics, traffic management, site organisation: final and detailed design from A to Z, as part of the Extraordinary Programme for the Port of Genoa.
In 2023, it won the OICE Award for best infrastructure project.
Today, those lanes are used by those transporting goods to the port. For us, this is the most tangible satisfaction there is.
