Upgrading of the Circumetnea Railway
The project involves the construction of a new section of the Catania Metro, from Misterbianco Centro to Paternò, covering a distance of 11.5 km, more than half of which will be in tunnels. The work includes the executive design and construction of a double-track railway line, the elimination of level crossings, the construction of five new stations (Gullotta, Belpasso, Valcorrente, Giaconia and Paternò) and the related civil engineering works for roads and railways, including the Ardizzone depot. Thanks to this project, the Catania Metro will reach a total length of 30 km and 27 stations, efficiently connecting the areas of Paternò, Belpasso, Misterbianco and Catania with Fontanarossa Airport. The project is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and involves a consortium of designers comprising Lombardi Ingegneria Italia, F&M Ingegneria SpA and SIPAL S.p.A.
