Central axis – Redevelopment of Ponte San Giovanni
The Ponte San Giovanni neighbourhood, the largest of those built after World War II around the historic centre of Perugia, is characterised by a wide range of public services concentrated along a road axis, Via Cestellini, which overlooks an urban void, now used as a weekly market and car park. The proposed intervention, “Asse delle Centralità” (Axis of Centrality), part of the PINQuA project “Ponte San Giovanni – da periferia a città” (Ponte San Giovanni – from suburb to city), focuses on the axis and the surrounding areas, creating an intervention capable of giving a new image to the open spaces and redeveloping the connective system that links the various public buildings that overlook it.
